The Scott Mission O'Connor Family Centre

December 2012

Dear Neighbour,

By way of this letter, The Scott Mission family would like to share some exciting news with you!

Over the years, we have been ministering to the poor and needy in downtown Toronto.  Many people come from across the GTA to access some of the help we offer including groceries, good quality clothing and informal counseling for women and families. In recent years, we have seen as much as 30% of our food bank clientele travel from the east end of Toronto to access these services – oftentimes making it very difficult to get bags of groceries home while taking various forms of public transit.  We believe accessing help shouldn’t be a struggle.

We have dreamed about better serving those in need in the east end of Toronto and extend our services beyond our main location at 502 Spadina Avenue, for many years.

This past January, we purchased the building located at 1550 O’Connor Drive.  We truly believe this building is an answer to prayer and will be central for existing and new clientele.  This building will be the new site of The Scott Mission O’Connor Family Centre.  A centre that will house a food and clothing bank, a Christian Childcare Centre, a community kitchen and a home base for our east end after-school program.

Renovations began in July of this year and we expect to open our doors in early 2013.  We truly look forward to being a member of your community and together working towards a more healthful community; where no one goes without food; families don’t have to resort to unlicensed childcare because the cost is too prohibitive; and children and youth can experience wonderful learning opportunities and guidance through our after-school programs.

This will be the first of many updates I share with you and I look forward to meeting each of you sometime soon.  Please feel free to contact me at any time with your questions or concerns.  I can be reached at 416-923-8872 ext. 302 or via email at jjohnson@scottmission.com

Sincerely,

Jeff Johnson
