When the cold winter sets in, many of our neighbours who are already struggling to get by, face even greater challenges. And already in 2026, winter winds plus wet and cold snow have blanketed the City of Toronto, which can be life-threatening for people living on the streets.
And that’s why the Mission is thankful to generous donors who help to provide warm refuge, nutritious meals, and medical care for men like Morufu who are experiencing homelessness. “Sleeping outside during the cold weather is not easy. Even with a jacket, I’m wearing everything and I’m still feeling it – thank God for Scott Mission.” he shares with gratitude.
When temperatures plummet, our neighbours face the dangers of:
• Frostbite
• Pneumonia
Brooke Bell, the Mission’s Manager of Health Services shares, “In the winter, we often see prolonged illnesses, at our health clinic, due to the fact that people experiencing homelessness don’t have a warm place to rest and recover from flus when they are out in the cold.”
The Mission’s Health Clinic Expansion Project will be completed in February – making make our health clinic 5X’s bigger! This expansion will provide much-needed accessibility for seniors, and it will allow us to expand services to include women and children in our community so our neighbours in need have access to medical care.
In the weeks ahead, Scott Mission will welcome everyone who comes through our doors with a hot meal and the heart-warming message of Christ’s love and compassion, so they know someone cares and they are not alone.
“…be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9 NLT)
