Because of the generosity of donors who believed in creating a safe and joyful space for children and youth, Scott Mission Camp’s new pool is now open — ready to welcome campers, spark laughter, and create lasting memories.
This is more than a new pool. It is a place where children can play freely, build confidence, and simply enjoy being kids.
For decades, swimming has been a vital part of camp life — a place where friendships are formed, skills are learned, and unforgettable memories are made. What began as memories of time in the lake grew into a dedicated pool—giving generations of children a place to learn, play, and build confidence in the water. But the previous pool, built in the 1980s, was no longer safe for use. Thanks to donors, and the team at Betz Pools, we have a new pool that brings that experience back.

But its impact goes far beyond its features.
This pool is part of something much bigger. For 85 years, Scott Mission has come alongside vulnerable neighbours across Toronto—meeting urgent needs while also investing in long-term hope. Camp is a vital part of that work: a place where children can step outside daily pressures, build trusted relationships, and discover who they can become. In moments that feel like pure fun, mentorship takes root, confidence grows, and faith is shared in ways that are natural, meaningful, and lasting.

For many campers, these are the moments that matter most. Trying something new. Building confidence. Experiencing pure joy in a safe and supportive environment.
For more than 700 children and youth each year —many from low-income families and priority neighbourhoods across Toronto—camp is an opportunity they might not otherwise have. It gives them a chance to step outside their daily realities and experience connection, fun, and hope.
Laughter in the water, encouragement from friends, the excitement of a first swim — these are the moments that stay with children long after summer ends. These are the moments that build confidence, resilience, and a sense of belonging.
This pool exists because of a community that cared enough to act.
We are especially grateful for a generous estate gift that helped make this possible. Given by Delores Beck and lovingly directed by her daughter, Michelle Kritzinger, this gift reflects a deep belief in creating opportunities for children to experience joy, growth, and belonging.
