There are many ways you can help!

Type of Volunteering

Individual

There is a process to becoming an individual volunteer.

As part of our screening process, we review every application carefully. Our goal is to have a mutually beneficial placement, where our volunteers have a rewarding experience in a position that fits your interests, skills, and availability.

Our 4-step process to volunteering
Step 1 – Apply to volunteer

Complete the online application with all the required information.

  • To continue to effectively provide essential services to our community, we are primarily looking for volunteers that can commit to a once-a-week schedule, for a minimum of 4 to 6 months.
Step 2 – Screening process

The volunteer services team will review your application and will contact the references you provide in your application. (2 references are required to proceed with an application)

Step 3 – Volunteer Match

If your skills and ability match our requirements and needs, one of the volunteer service team will contact you to discuss opportunities.

Step 4 – Orientation and Training

Your application has been approved, and you must complete a virtual orientation information session. The sessions can be completed at any time in the onboard process, at your convenience. On your first day of volunteering training will be provided by your supervising staff.

*There will be a 3-month probationary period so that both parties can ensure it is a good fit and change their minds.

The length of time it takes to process an application varies depending on the season and the volume of applications submitted.

  • There will be a 3-month probationary period so that both parties can ensure it is a good fit and change their minds.

The Scott Mission receives a high volume of applications. We will only be in contact with applicants that match our current needs.

We appreciate your patience and understanding during this process but are confident that, once on board, you will have a fulfilling volunteer experience with us.

Group Volunteer Opportunities
Option #1

Micro Group Volunteering allows everyone on your team to rotate through volunteering while maintaining a strong presence at the office. By choosing a specific weekly schedule your team is paired in teams of two, multiplied out to a maximum sustainable capacity of your team.

  • For example, teams of 2, 4 or 6 will cover a specific weekly volunteer shift.
Option #2

Larger group volunteering allows for a group of 10 people to come.

  • If available positions exist, we might be able to fit a couple more people in.
Duties
  • Kitchen Duties: Assist with basic food preparation and cleaning as per instructions from the supervising staff.
  • Distribution Duties: Sorting, portioning, and packaging fresh produce and non-perishable items to be given out at our food banks.
Days/Hours
  • Monday to Friday (Closed on the weekends)
    8:00 AM to 12PM
    1 PM to 2:30 PM
Group size

The maximum capacity for groups will be 10 participants.
*Participants will be divided between our departments as needed.

Location

  • The Hub, 5 McLachlan Drive, Etobicoke, ON (Hwy 27 and Dixon)
Cost

Although we are grateful for any financial donations your organization may provide, it is not mandatory to volunteer.

Thank you for your support!

As our volunteer shifts are physically demanding, all volunteers will need to be able to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 20 pounds/9kgs throughout a shift.
