Always with a heart for neighbours in need, Cynthia has done food and clothing drives and supported The Scott Mission with her gifts over the years.
For her, it was just one small way of living out her faith, “‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these” (Mark 12:31 ESVUK).
Then came the day when Cynthia, newly retired, realized she needed help.
Upon her first visit to The Scott Mission to receive help instead of offering it, Cynthia found kindness, encouragement, and friendship. Her faith was nurtured at the first of many prayer meetings. “I came to the prayer group and met everyone. They were friendly and welcoming—and there were really good sessions,” she says.
That day, Cynthia also learned that food, clothes, and other emergency help are always available to help neighbours facing difficult seasons.
Cynthia says The Scott Mission’s caring staff has sown into her life in so many ways over the years. Like on Mother’s Day, when she was invited to a special luncheon. And pre-COVID, when she had the opportunity to participate in an overnight women’s retreat at our beautiful Collingwood property.
“The Scott Mission is remarkable. They’re doing great work,” Cynthia says. “I’m so grateful and happy that I went to Collingwood. It was so peaceful, a real blessing.”
Cynthia knows now just how important each of her gifts, food, and clothing drives were for people who are struggling. “You never know how far your giving will reach and who it will bless, and you might get something in return,” she says. “You give and you get back.”
